GoodSAM - Good Smartphone Activated Medics
GoodSAM - Good Smartphone Activated Medics
If you are unfortunate and need to call 999 for an ambulance, don't be surprised if complete strangers in civies, work clothes, or even night clothes (yes it does happen) turn up on your doorstep. They will be local people, neighbours perhaps, who have the GoodSAM app on their phone. All GoodSAM responders are medically trained, and regularly assessed, in performing CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation).
If you have watched some medical television documentaries you'll know that when you are put through to the ambulance call handler the first question you will be asked is, "Is the patient breathing?". If your answer to this question is No, in addition to immediately allocating an ambulance, the call handler will activate GoodSAM.
Three people in your immediate vicinity with the GoodSAM app will be alerted by a very loud siren emanating from their phone, and if they are able, will accept the alert and proceed with all haste to your location. Your address and a directional map will appear on their phone. If any of these three are unable to attend, the alert will extend out to the next nearest Responder.
In cardiac arrest a person's chances of survival reduces by 10% for every minute that CPR does not take place. Early CPR is therefore vital to the survival of a person in cardiac arrest. The ambulance call handler will instruct the caller in performing CPR knowing that a responder and the ambulance service will not be too far away.
Please watch the short video in the link below. If you have opportunity do learn CPR and also determine the location of community defibrillators near you You could save a life.
