Grange Park Community and Sports Association
(added 19/07/10)It has become necessary for the Parish Council to relinquish the responsibility for the general management of the Community Centre, MUGA, Foxfield Pavilion and Sports Fields. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly or indeed was something we even envisaged we would have to do but have been forced to for VAT reasons and we are in the process of setting up a new Management Association to take over this responsibility. This Association will be constituted as a charitable trust which will be administered by a number Trustees, comprising of representatives from the various groups using the facilities, two Parish Councillors and members of our local community.
If you live on Grange Park and have skills that would help in the management of these facilities, you can by find out more about how you can become involved by checking the Parish web site and notice boards or contact the Parish office.

Message from Northamptonshire West Police
(added 10/06/10)Officers have handed out 61 fixed penalty notices (FPN) in a four-hour operation in Northampton on Saturday 6 June.
The officers were based in Bedford Road and Towcester Road during Saturday afternoon and issued notices to drivers who were found to be talking on their mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt and driving without insurance.
In total 44, £60 fines were issued for people not wearing seatbelts, including drivers and passengers.
PC David Lee, who ran the operation, said: "We are determined to make Northamptonshire's roads even safer and will continue to tackle those motorists who continue to break the law.
"During our operation we found 44 people who were not wearing a seatbelt, something that should be taken extremely seriously."
"Someone not wearing a seatbelt involved in a col! lision is more likely to die than someone who is wearing one. That is why it is vitally important that all people travelling in vehicles spend just a few seconds belting up before every journey."

General Notice (for Information only)
(added 27/05/10)It has been reported to the Parish Council that a dog was bitten by an "Adder" in foxfield park a few weeks ago. Please don't panic.
General Facts
Bites from adders are very rare, and the vast majority occur when a snake is picked up. Most reactions to adder bites are mild, but any bite should be regarded as potentially serious and immediate medical advice should be sought.
Bites to cats and dogs do occur, but rarely prove fatal. Vets and doctors in areas where adders occur are aware of the treatment required in handling bite cases, and effective treatment is now well understood.

M1 J15 Gyratory Resurfacing Scheme
(updated 12/02/10)For full details of these works please see this document.
Northamptonshire's Volunteer Police Service
(updated 04/01/10)Northants Police currently has over 180 Volunteer Police Officers (Special Constables), all of which contribute to keeping your community safe and "making the difference" within it.
Special Constables are involved in a very diverse mixture of police work, a typical shift can involve crewing up with another Special or Regular Officer, and responding to calls from the public when they come in. This could be anything form anti-social behaviour to a serious assault! You may find that a large amount of your time will be spent carrying out proactive high visibility patrols in your area. This is of course very important as it improves public confidence and can deter crime before it happens.
Special Constables are often called upon to support specific operations across the force. This can present you with a number of exciting opportunities as you could be involved in, Plain clothes work, intelligence gathering and executing search warrants, to name but a few.
Becoming a Special Constable is ideal for those who want to help their local Police Officers and PCSO's and put something back in to their community.
It is also an ideal position for those who wish to become full-time Police Officers to gain excellent experience and life skills to aid them in applying. For more information on the role, to receive an application form, or to view our upcoming Open Evenings please visit:-www.northants.police.uk/careers or call Lizzi Betts on 03000 111 222 ext 2098, our specials recruitment administrator who will be happy to advise you.

Dog Advice
If you can't keep your dog under control, keep it on a lead
There had been a number of incidents reported to the Parish Council regarding dogs not being properly under control when walking in Foxfield Country Park.
On a right of way your dog does not have to be on a lead but it does have to be 'under close control'. This phrase is not defined but pretty much means that if dog will not always come, straight away, when called even when he's chasing things, and then stay there, he could be at risk of being seen to worry people or animals. So if there is any chance he might go off then the lead is the best option.
The Control of Dogs Order 1992
Requires all dogs, in a public place, to wear a collar which has the name & address of the owner on it (or on a tag attached to the collar).
Dangerous Dog Act 1991
It is a criminal offence (for the owner and/or the person in charge of the
dog) to allow a dog to be 'dangerously out of control' in a public place, a
place where it is not permitted to be, and some other areas. A 'dangerously
out of control' dog can be defined as a dog that has injured someone or a
dog that a person has grounds for reasonable apprehension that it may do so.
Something as simple as your dog chasing, barking at or jumping up at a
person or child could lead to a complaint, so ensure that your dog is under
control at all times.
If your dog injures a person, it may be seized by the police and your penalty may include a prison sentence and/or a ban on keeping dogs. There is also an automatic presumption that your dog will be destroyed (unless you can persuade the court that it is not a danger to the public, in which case it may be subject to a control order). You may also have to pay a fine, compensation and costs.
Finally, dog owners please be considerate when walking your dog, remember not everyone like dogs and the Country Park is for all to enjoy!

Is your Dog Legal ?
Under control of dogs order 1992, any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. You can be fined up to £5,000 if your dog does not wear the correct identification.

Due to health and Safety reasons the Parish Council has made the decision to tape off those areas most affected with some red and white warning tape. ITV Fixers
ITV Fixers is a special collaboration between ITV and various charities, encouraging young people aged 16-25 to "fix" issues or problems to help themselves and others. For example, the midlands is currently experiencing soaring rates of youth unemployment - perhaps some young people might like to come up with a new way of offering support to the young unemployed? Or to raise awareness of cultural or environmental issues? Anything they feel strongly about.
We will offer them funding, expertise and support to do this (we have our own dedicated teams of youth workers and creative resources people) - whether by creating a website, information leaflets, a short film, a pop video.... whatever the Fixers want to do. In addition, some Fixes will be televised on ITV Central news.
The project has been running successfully in the south of England for over a year and now it's rolling out across the midlands - with a big television launch in November. So we want to get the word out to young people that this is happening and invite them to take part.
Please see our website: www.itvfixers.com for more information and many examples of past Fixes.
Please encourage as many young people as possible to check it out!
Any young people or youth workers who'd like to get in touch should contact:

Peacock Problem
(updated 14/05/09)Unfortunately the local authority is unable to deal with the alleged peacock problem within Grange Park. The only possible action that could have been taken would be regard to the noise. However, as there appears to be no owners of the birds, even if a statutory nuisance was proven there would be no owner to serve a notice on to abate the noise, therefore action cannot be taken by the Council in this regard.
The Wildlife Licensing Unit state that peacocks are not indigenous to this country and are graded as category E. They are not a protected species. Their advice would be for the village not to encourage the peacocks by feeding them. If the peacocks nest within a garden, the owner of the land could create barriers to prevent the peacocks gaining access to the nest area. The Wildlife Licensing Unit also advises that the RSPCA may be able to assist. The contact number for the RSPCA is 0300 1234 555.

Senseless Vandalism
(updated 29/04/09)For the second weekend running persons unknown have damaged the Community facility that is being built on Foxfields despite it being clearly and securely fenced off.
Last weekend a fire was lit within the building that damaged brickwork and some of the ducting which has caused unnecessary delays and necessitated some remedial reconstruction.
Last weekend the compound was again broken into and brickwork knocked down; scaffolding thrown about and the roof trusses swung on.
Both incidents have been reported to the Police. The Parish Council will seek prosecution of anybody caught carrying out these acts of vandalism.

We’ve received a letter from GOEM today confirming that the Secretary of State has decided not to call the application in. The letter states that:
“On balance, having taken into account the aforementioned issues, the Secretary of State is of the view that the proposed development does not raise issues of such wide significance as to require a determination by her”.
This means that WNDC can proceed to determine the application, although at present they are of course precluded from granting planning permission by the Highway Agencies TR110 direction.

Statement relating to the proposed Frontier Development - (updated 22/01/08)
14th January 2008
Grange Park Parish Council's mission is to make Grange Park a great place for all of us to live. While its powers are very limited, it's staff and members work hard for the benefit of the whole community. The Frontier development has implication for all of us in Grange Park and understandably raises concerns and emotions. We would ask everyone in this and other meetings to conduct themselves with respect and politeness. The Parish Council is trying to work on your behalf with large corporate and legal bodies - trying to get the best deal for all of us in Grange Park.
The Parish Council
- has not given it’s support to the proposed development of 450 residential units, 10,500 square metres office space and a 150 bed hotel.
- has been proactive in consulting with Frontier and the Planning authorities.
- attended a preliminary presentation meeting with Frontiers; 8th June 2007.
- has written to the Planning Department of West Northamptonshire Development Corporation on 12th June 2007 outlining concerns around sewage , flooding and transportation. There has also been other issues raised verbally such as the impact of the local health services and the provision of education at the local Primary school.
- this information was then presented to the public at a exhibition held at the community centre over 3 days ( 21st – 23rd June 2007) - the Parish Council were then invited to a subsequent meeting (18th September 2007, which the Chair and the Clerk attended) to review the comments received , these were then circulated to all members of the Parish Council (as stated in the minutes in October 2007).
- subsequently organised the public meeting and arranged for West Northamptonshire District Council to be present on Monday 7th January 2008 in order to seek the resident’s views before the Parish Council consider and comments on the planning application. (which will be done at the next Council meeting to be held Monday 14th January 2008).
- As evidenced above it is clear that the Parish Council is still engaged in consultation with Frontier and that a further letter will be drafted after the meeting on 14th January 2008 to re-state the concerns of the local community.
- strongly refutes any allegations that any of it’s members have acted improperly in relation to this planning application.
Councillors Clive Rees and Gill Proudley

Grange Park U11 Cricket Team - (updated 21/11/07)

This was our first season in competitive cricket in the South Northants
Junior Cricket League, playing well established sides that have been
together for some years. The youngsters considering most have not played
competitively and their very young age played very well against players
that were some 3 or 4 years older than themselves and they all performed
extremely well and to the best of their abilities. This was always
going to be a transitional season as the inaugural season always is, but we
have a nucleus of a very good team for the next few years.
Of the nine games that we should have played only five were actually played, the others were washed out with the rain and subsequently drawn. Of the five games played, all were lost, but as I said earlier, these lads were performing against older players and they will be better next year for the experience. Of the overall winners of the South Northants Junior Cricket League, Byfield, Grange Park were only beaten by 20 runs. That shows the effort and ability that the youngsters put in.
Of the players who won awards at our recent Under 11 awards evening, Sam Garret was the Coaches Most Improved Player of the Year and Harry Smith was the Coaches Player of the Year. Both can be seen holding their silver platters. All the youngsters who played for Grange Park Under 11 receive individual medals so as to commemorate the season and their taking an active part in the Team's progress.
Grange Park Under 11 team members are, in alphabetical order are;
Sam Baker, Alex Brenan, William Brenan, Nathan Chapman, Sam Garrett,
Thomas Holmes, Ravi Nathwani, Harry Smith, Justin Trory, Mitch Vian, Charles &
Ashley Woodfield. Please note that Nathan, Mitch & Ravi were unavailable
on the evening of the awards and will be presented with their medals
officially, at the start of winter training.
I would like to thank all the youngsters for putting their faith in
me their
Coach and for the regular attending of numerous coaching and training
sessions and for making last season a success, despite the rain. I
would also like to thank all the parents for their support and attendance
to all the youngsters games and practice sessions and in particular for ferrying
their sons to all the games, both home and away. Thank you all and
well done.
A big thank you to PwC who are one of our sponsors and in particular donated an Inter Cricket Kit that has helped bring the youngsters on considerably last season. Also thanks to Let2Invest for their continued support to the cricket club. Last but not least are two major players who made this youth cricket possible, Grange Park Parish Council who have supported the cricket club since day one and even now are fully behind the club with the eventual move to a new ground and facilities at Foxfield Park within two years or so and Northants County Council, in particular the VSSU (Voluntary Sector Support Unit) who kindly awarded the club a grant of almost £5k so as to purchase equipment, arrange training, provide coaching etc. Jacqueline Taylor of the VSSU was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to present the awards to all the youngsters on the evening. Thank you, Jacqueline.
