Grange Park Parish Council response to Manor Oak appeal

Last year Manor Oak Homes acting on behalf of the Wake Estate applied for planning permission to build 300 houses and a primary school on the field at the other side of Alamein woods on the Southern edge of Grange Park.

The Grange Park Parish Council objected strongly to the application. We argued that the building of 300 houses on this site would have a negative impact on the quality of the lives of Grange Park residents. The points we argued were that the new development would:

  • put a strain on the current amenities on Grange Park.
  • have an environmental impact: We would no longer enjoy the beauty of living on the edge of open countryside. We do not desire a paved walkway with lighting to be built through Alamein woods.
  • create traffic and transport issues: The country lane which joins Quinton with the A508 would become much busier and would no longer be safe to walk along.
  • Isolated the new residents: We also argued that the new estate would not be a pleasant place to live, it being in such an isolated position and stuck right next to the motorway.

South Northants District Council rejected the planning application as the proposed development was in a part of the county which did not have a need for these houses. The development was in such an isolated position that the residents would have to rely too heavily on the use of private cars. And that air and noise pollution would be too high.

The applicant, Manor Oak Homes, have lodged a planning appeal against the planning authority's decision. The appeal will be held by means of a public inquiry.

All members of the public are allowed to have their say in the inquiry. You can submit your opinion by letter, by e-mail or on-line. Your Parish Council urge you to do so as such an important decision should not be made without the voices of Grange Park residents being heard!
